New Delhi, June 26: Having a deep discourse over the multiple issues concerning terror and defence prior to the meeting between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of G-20 summit at Osaka on June 28, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met NSA Ajit Doval in the South block on Wednesday.

Arriving in India on Tuesday to strengthen the strategic ties between the two nations, Pompeo met PM Narendra Modi and EAM Subramaniam Jaishankar, further discussing the agenda for US-India strategic partnership.

The two further discussed various aspects of the bilateral relationship to strengthen the India-US economic partnership as well. The State Secretary put forward the US’s demand for reducing trade barriers imposed by India during his meeting with NSA Doval.

“There is enormous potential to grow our trade relationship and create the high-quality jobs that Prime Minister Modi wants if India lowers trade barriers and embraces fair and reciprocal trade”, he said. Secretary Pompeo’s visit marks the third visit to India by a Secretary of State during the Trump Administration.
