New Delhi, June 3: He came to the office on bicycle...took charge as the Minister of Health, Govt. of India…addressed the media…and immediately kicked of the action plan. In a media briefing today, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that he will write to the Chief Ministers of the five states where Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB – PMJAY) has so far not been implemented. "I will try contact all those five Chief Ministers today either on phone or letter," said Dr. Vardhan.

Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Delhi are the states that still have not implemented the scheme. Under this scheme, five lakh rupees annual cover is provided to each family belonging to vulnerable sections for treatment.

“So far, 27 lakh people have availed the benefits under the scheme. The government has also set a target of establishing 1.5 lakh health and wellness centres by 2022. So far, around 16 to 17 thousand such Centres have come up. The Ministry will launch a campaign to provide healthcare facilities to the patients through the Centres. We will try to convince the Chief Ministers to implement the AB – PMJAY scheme in the interest of the people. Our priority is also to ensure time bound completion of works of 21 new AIIMS,’’ said Dr. Harsh Vardhan.
