Indian Railway the Winner of 21st USIC World Tennis Championship!

New Delhi, June 3: India beat Czech Republic 4-0 in the super league and retained the title in the 21st USIC World Railways Tennis Championship. Team India maintained an impressive record of not dropping a set in 20 matches. Railway Minister of India Piyush Goyal congratulated the team for extraordinary performance. "India's Performance has brought immence pride to the Railway family and the whole country" said Goyal in a Tweet.


 

In the desisive matches, India’s Nitin Kumar Sinha defeated Michal Cepek 6-0, 6-0; Mohammed Fahad beat Michal Weber 6-4, 6-1; P.C. Vighnesh defeated Alan Brusenbauch 6-3, 6-4 and Prithvi Sekhar conquered Jury Hipsky 6-1, 6-1.

With two team each qualifying from the three groups for the next stage, India won over Belgium in the elimination round. Thereafter, it defeated Bulgaria and Czech Republic in the three team super league to emerge the champion. Every tie featured four single matches. India won 40 sets without dropping one in a competition that featured 10 teams. In the league stage, India had beaten Slovakia and Czech Republic.

 
USIC (Union Sportive Internationale des Cheminots) is an international railways sporting association with members from various countries. USIC is a charitable organization established with an aim to encourage the practice of amateur sport among railway employees. It organizes international railsport events. This is India’s second consecutive victory after 2015 tennis championship.
