God Blesses Andhra Pradesh! Veteran Politician Biswa Bhushan Harichandan Appointed as the New Governor

Amaravati, July 17: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has been appointed as governor Andhra Pradesh by President Ramnath Kovind yesterday. Former Odisha Minister Harichandan will replace ESL Narasimhan, who had been the Governor of Andhra Pradesh for a decade and is also the Governor of Telangana. 

 
A statement released by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that The President of India is pleased to make appointments of Anusuiya Uikey as Governor of Chhattisgarh and Biswa Bhusan Harichandan as Governor of Andhra Pradesh. The new Governor thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for giving him an opportunity and said that he will try to solve some of the contentious issues the state is facing with Odisha.
 
Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, a Jana Sangh leader, was the BJP state president in Odisha. He had also served as Law Minister in the state. Venturing into politics in 1971, the 84-year-old Harichand has been elected to Odisha Assembly five times from Chilika and Bhubaneshwar constituencies. He became the National Executive Member of the Bharatiya Jana Snagh in 1971 and its State General Secretory till the formation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1977. He had been the President of BJP-Odisha from 1980 to 1988. 
 
The Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act of 2014 states that the Governor of the existing state of Andhra Pradesh would be the common Governor for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for a period as may be determined by the President.
Harichandan, when asked about the border dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, said that though the role of the Governor is limited, he would be happy if he gets to discuss the issues with both the states and bring out some solution.”I will also look for the development of the state,” he added.
