Bangalore, July 24: “It’s the victory of people of Karnataka! It’s the end of an era of corrupt and unholy alliance! We promise a stable & able governance to the people of Karnataka! Together we will make Karnataka prosperous again!” exclaimed the Bharatiya Janata Party members after a sweet victory in trust vote.
After the collapse of coalition Government in Karnataka yesterday after the trust vote, BJP is likely to hold its legislative party meeting today to elect its leader. Thereafter the legislative party leader will be meeting the Governor to stake a claim for the Government.
As per the current scenario, it seems that B. S. Yeddyurappa is their natural choice for the post of Chief Minister. He is likely to be sworn in tomorrow by the Governor. The Cabinet will be decided after proving the majority in the House. The new Government will be asked to prove its majority on the floor of the House by the Governor. The new Government has to pass the Finance Bill before this month end to enable payment of salaries to the state Government staff.
With the strength of 105, the BJP is just two numbers more than the magic number of 103 in a House strength of 205. Two Independents have extended their support to BJP. The rebel MLAs role in the days to come will give an indication in this direction.
As per his natural habit, when Rahul Gandhi expressed ill wishes to the winning party, the BJP retaliated him saying, "Your desperation to hold on to power has lost today. It’s a victory of Karnataka over your unholy alliance & greed for power. Democracy has won today & people’s mandate is restored."
