New Delhi, July 26: The Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) Women’s Cell has welcomed the passage of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019 in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Expressing satisfaction over the bill, Adv Shaheen Pervez, National Convener of MRM Women’s Cell said that this is the happiest moment for the crores of Muslim women. She congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad and all the MPs who voted in favour of the bill in the Lok Sabha. It may be mentioned that the Lok Sabha had passed this bill for the third time.

Earlier, under NDA 1, the Bill was passed twice in the Lok Sabha but failed to get clearance from the Upper House thus preventing it from becoming a law banning triple talaq or talak-e-biddat. Due to this the government had to issue an ordinance twice to ensure its implementation.

Adv Pervez said that the MRM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet is committed to protect the rights of the Muslim women and to empower them. The Muslim women have launched a campaign under the leadership and guidance of MRM Patron Indresh Kumar against the outdated and bad customs crept into the Muslim community.

She further said that the Quran does not have any mention of ‘talaq-e-biddat’ in any of its Sura and the Muslim women now want their rights restored as per the Holy Quran. Making a very caustic observation on the speeches of AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and SP leader Azam Khan, Adv Pervez said that she was pained to hear the speeches of these two leaders who insulted not only the women but also the religion in the parliament. “I strongly condemn and deplore their remarks and attitude towards women”, she said.

Taking strong objection to the way both of them were raising questions about the maintenance of the divorced women, she said that people like him always treat women as most condemned creature created for the men only. She said that both Owaisi and Azam Khan and others who supported them were the enemies of Islam, the Prophet, and women. They would not get a place even in the hell.

Meanwhile, MRM National Convener Reshma Hussain, who is currently on a visit to Hyderabad for opening a ‘Sulah Kendra’ to prevent breaking of families due to triple talaq, has also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Cabinet colleagues and members of the Lok Sabha for passage of this bill and hoped that the bill will be passed in the Upper House as well.

Shahnaz Afzal, National-Co-Convener of MRM Women’s Cell also welcomed the passage of the bill and said that the comments made by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi and SP leader Azam Khan were ‘childish’ and ‘irrelevant’. She took strong objection to calling marriage a ‘contract’ and said that it was shameful for them to talk like that for they were not talking for the good of humanity.

Hoping that the Rajya Sabha too will give its approval to this bill, she said that this will help in checking the instances of triple talaq and restore the rights of the Muslim women as per the directives of the Quran.

Farhana Khatun, another prominent social activist from Bihar said that the credit for this goes to MRM and its Patron Indresh Kumar, under whose guidance the MRM had been raising the issue of pitiable plight of the Muslim women and started a campaign against the evil practice of triple talaq.

She also thanked Prime Minster Narendra Modi and his cabinet colleagues and all the members of parliament for passing this bill with majority. There is no mention of triple talaq in the Holy Quran and the decision of the Modi government has come as a most satisfying and upholding the truth for the Muslim women. This will surely restore the dignity, position and rights of the Muslim women in the society, she added.

Fatima Ali of Tamil Nadu also welcomed the move and said that we are all very happy. This bill will prove to be very supportive for Muslim women whose life would otherwise be converted into hell due to triple talaq.

This will restore their self-esteem, respect and rights in the society and in turn will safeguard the community, she added.

Describing the comments of Asaduddin Owaisi and Azam Khan on this bill as ‘political compulsions’, she hoped that people will not fall prey to their false and misleading views. She thanked the Prime Minister for restoring the dignity of Muslim women as per the directives of Quran.
