New Delhi, Jul. 4: Yesterday witnessed the major blow to already weak Congress. The ‘New’ face of Congress, Rahul Gandhi gives resignation for the presidency of Congress. He publicly announced his resignation by taking responsibility for Lok Sabha failure.

On his four-page open letter, Priyanka Gandhi reacted with ‘Sisterly’ love. She said, “respected his decision’ and that few had ‘courage to do’ what Rahul Gandhi did”.

In this open letter, Gandhi also urged the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to entrust a group of people with the task of finding a new president as it would not be proper for him to do so.

But, sister Priyanka, it is not the question of courage but the compulsion of politics. The terrible performance and resultant failure of Congress party is a by-product of performance failure of president of the party, but in fact, this resignation seems like realization to Rahul Gandhi about changing course of Congress party.

In the open letter, Rahul Gandhi said, “As President of the Congress Party, I am responsible for the loss of the 2019 election. Accountability is critical for the future growth of our party. It is for this reason that I have resigned as Congress President," he said, rejecting pleas by senior party leaders to continue as the chief of the grand old party.

"The party should decide on the new president quickly without further delay. I am nowhere in this process. I have already submitted my resignation and I am no longer the party president. CWC should convene a meeting at the earliest and decide," Gandhi told reporters in the parliament.

Rahul has also removed the tag of party President from his Twitter bio hours after confirming his resignation from the top post. The Congress lawmaker changed his bio from "President of Indian National Congress" to "Member of Indian National Congress".

Gandhi, currently a Member of Lok Sabha from Wayanad in Kerala, became the Congress president in 2017.
