Mumbai, July 4: Paying for their sins straight in the star system, Congress’s ex-President who confirmed his resignation from the said post yesterday, appeared at the Mumbai court in connection with a defamation case filed against him in year 2017 for allegedly linking journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder with BJP-RSS ideology.

Already being on bail in the National Herald case, Rahul Gandhi today has again managed releasing himself safe for the actual misdeed he voiced then, back in 2017. The Mumbai Court released him on Rs 15000 surety amount, surety being given by Ex MP Eknath Gaikwad.

This is in fact, a day after RaGa resigned officially from his party presidency post. While the Congress supporters gathered outside the court Gandhi was backed by Mallikarjun Kharge and Milind Deora for the claimed offence.

The Mazgaon metropolitan magistrate's court, in February had issued summons to Rahul Gandhi and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury in response to a private complaint filed by Dhrutiman Joshi, a lawyer by profession.

Joshi, in 2017 had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi, the then Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, the CPM and its general secretary Yechury saying that within 24 hours of Lankesh’s death, Rahul Gandhi had opined that anybody who spoke against the ideology of the BJP and RSS, was to be pressured, beaten, attacked and even killed.

The complaint further stated that Yechury had said that it was the RSS's ideology and RSS people who killed the journalist who was known for trenchant criticism of right-wing politics. Gauri Lankesh was shot dead outside her house in Bengaluru in September 2017. Three men fired at least seven bullets at her at around 8 p.m. while she was unlocking the main door of her house after returning from her office.
