Lucknow, August 1: About 95 thousand home guards in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have received great relief from the Supreme Court. After the order of the Supreme Court on Tuesday, all the home guards will get an allowance (proportional) according to the minimum wage of the constable. So far, in Uttar Pradesh, the Home Guards got the allowance at Rs 500 per day.
A bench of Justices SA Bobde, Rasubhash Reddy and BR Gawai rejected the UP government's plea by upholding the Allahabad High Court's order.
The apex court asked the UP government to give allowance from December 2016 and issue orders in this regard within eight weeks.
The apex court refused to regularize the Home Guards but said that due to the same work as regular constable, they should get minimum wages. The Supreme Court also ordered about 10,000 home guards of Uttarakhand to pay the allowance according to the minimum wage of the Constable.
At present, there are 800 companies of Home Guard jawans in Uttar Pradesh. At present, there are 95 thousand soldiers in the department. In which 85,000 Homeguards are doing duty, whereas the approved posts of Home Guards in the state are 1 lakh 17 thousand.
