New Delhi, August 07: Weeping the tears off over the end of a glorious chapter in the Indian politics, Senior BJP leaders and the national heads this morning paid last tribute to the veteran, former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at her residence.
Getting emotional while meeting the family member of Swaraj, PM Narendra Modi laid a wreath in tribute to the former Foreign Minister. “Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people. She was uncompromising when it came to matters of ideology and interests of the BJP, whose growth she immensely contributed to”, he said.
Meanwhile President Ram Nath Kovind, LS Speaker Om Birla, HMA Amit Shah, Israeli Ambassador to India, Ron Malka, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, BJP national working president JP Nadda, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal and more,all paid floral tributes to Swaraj, expressing deep grief.
L K Advani, unable to sway away his tears, said, “The nation has lost a remarkable leader. To me, it is an irreparable loss and I will miss Sushmaji’s presence immensely. May her soul rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to Swaraj ji, Bansuri and all members of her family”.
Following the sad episode, Delhi government has announced a two-day state mourning. “There will be no cultural events during this period in the state. All other government business and programmes, including the Anganwadi programme at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, will continue as scheduled”, the statement read.
Swaraj, aged 67 breathed last yesterday after she was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences around 9.30pm in a critical condition and was straight away taken to the emergency ward where a team of doctors attended to her but could not revive the astute politician. Last rites of former External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader are to be performed with full state honours at 3 pm in New Delhi.
