Inclusions and comprisals! Indian railways bear a robust pillar to make India Divyangjan-friendly nation

New Delhi, September 18: Bearing the pillars for the Centre who is working towards a Divyang friendly nation, the Indian Railways has moved up providing special facilities for the divyang passengers so that they do not face any problem at the station.

 
 
"Signages in Braille script is being provided for differently abled passengers so that they can easily locate their platform, coach, seats etc. Time taken to identify the platform was one of the problems by visually impaired passengers. The indicators as well as the booklet in Braille will be resolving the problems", the Western railways confirmed in a statement.
 
Borivli, being the first blind free station in Mumbai, the Western Railways, Anuprayaas and the Cox and Kings foundation joined hands back in 2018 to make Borivli station more accesible for the visually impaired. The said project involves, Braille embossed railings on foot over bridges and subways, at entry and exit points and Braille booklet to make Borivali station further accessible.
 
"Signages superimposed with Braille scripts are also being provided in the newly manufactured coaches of Indian Railways. In addition, retro-fitment of the same in existing coaches has also been taken up in a phased manner", the statement added.
 
Also the Western Railways has moved up conducting training sessions for the WR staff for them to help the visually impaired passengers optimally. Augmentation of amenities at stations, including those for elderly passengers, being a continuous process, ‘May I help you’ Booth, standard ramp for barrier free entry, non-slippery walk-way from parking lot to building, engraving on edges of platform, are some of the short term facilities undertaken.
