New Delhi, Oct 2: The Indian Army slammed Pakistan for running a state-sponsored malicious social media disinformation campaign to create a divide within the 13-lakh Indian Army force.
Fake videos and other "misinformation" about Sikhs in the Indian Army, especially Lt-General Taranjit Singh, who is posted as the deputy chief of integrated defense staff (operations) in the defense ministry, are being spread from across the border.
In a statement, the Indian Army said that Pakistan has been unleashing a 'disinformation campaign' against the 'Indian Army & in particular against Lt Gen Taranjit Singh and rejected the attempts to defame the organization. "Over the past few days, a state-sponsored malicious social media disinformation campaign has been run by Pakistan against the Indian Army and in particular against Lt Gen Taranjit Singh, a senior officer posted in the Department of Military Affairs (DMA)," it said.
Further, it added, "Having failed consistently to incite religion-based disaffection within the country, Pakistan, in a desperate attempt, is now trying to create a divide within the Indian Army. The Indian Army categorically rejects such malicious attempts to defame the institution." It asserted that the Indian Army is a secular organization and all officers and soldiers serve the nation with pride irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, or gender.
