Hyderabad, October 29: In a major development, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for its 51st mission to launch EOS-01 as a primary satellite along with nine international customer satellites in India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle from India's first launch pad on 7 th November.
"India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in its 51st mission (PSLV-C49), will launch EOS-01 as primary satellite along with nine international customer satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota," the ISRO said in a statement on Wednesday (28 October).
The PSLV C49 will lift off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota on November 07, 2020, at 3.02 pm IST on 7 November.
EOS-01 is an earth observation satellite intended for applications in agriculture, forestry, and disaster management support.
The customer satellites are being launched under a commercial agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), Department of Space, it said. This will be the 51st mission of ISRO's workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
Earlier in June ISRO Chairman K Sivan had said that ten space missions being prepared for launch this year have been ‘disturbed’ due to the lockdown.
The PSLV is a four-stage/engine rocket powered by solid and liquid fuels alternatively with six booster motors strapped on to the first stage to give higher thrust during the initial flight moments.
Moreover, in view of the strict COVID-19 pandemic norms gathering of media personnel is not planned at SDSC SHAR and the launch viewing gallery will be closed during this launch. However, the live telecast of the launch will be available on the ISRO website, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter channels.
