Bihar Education Minister Mewalal Choudhary Step Down From His Post

Patna, November 20: Just three days after taking an oath as the education minister, Bihar's newly appointed Mewalal Choudhary has stepped down from his post and submitted his resignation after meeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan accepted the resignation of Mewalal Choudhary with immediate effect and appointed JD(U) Bihar chief Ashok Choudhary as education minister on CM Nitish Kumar's recommendation.

His resignation comes amid intense Opposition protest over corruption allegations.
 
“An accusation is proven only when a charge sheet is filed or a court gives an order and neither of the two is there to prove the allegations against me,” Choudhary said.
 
Choudhary, former vice-chancellor of an agriculture university and a first-time minister. Chaudhary along with 55 others have been charged with misappropriation of power and appointing nearly 170 junior scientists at the University during his tenure. Chaudhary was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the agriculture university in 2010. Mewalal Choudhary was booked in 2017 under IPC sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B.
 
He resigned from the post in 2015 to contest the Assembly elections that year. He was again elected MLA from Tarapur in Munger.
