Panaji, Dec 15: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gave a spectacular performance as it has swept the Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa. BJP won 32 of 48 seats which went to the polls The party had won one seat unopposed.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant tweeted, "I humbly bow down before the people of Goa for the trust they have reposed onto the Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the Govt of Goa working under my leadership. Let us shape a glorious and Swayampurna (Self Reliant) Goa by taking ahead the same trust and confidence!"
BJP national president, JP Nadda, also congratulated saying, "Congrats to CM @DrPramodPSawant ji, State President @ShetSadanand ji & @BJP4Goa unit for a remarkable victory in the Goa Zila Panchayat elections. This result shows the faith of Farmers, Labour, Women & Youth in the leadership of @narendramodi ji & policies of BJP govt in State.
In the ZP polls, BJP secured sweeping victory by winning 19 Seats out of 25 in North Goa Zilla Panchayat elections while in south Goa, it won 14 seats out of 25. Congress won only one seat in North Goa and 3 seats in South Goa.

Out of 50 ZP constituencies, polling did not take place in two. Polling was canceled in Navelim due to the death of a candidate, while in Sancoale, the BJP candidate won unopposed. The elections were held on Saturday and counting was held today. This was the first election in Goa since the coronavirus pandemic began.
