Looks like one of the most successful screenings in Indian television history, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan and Baldev Raj Chopra’s Mahabharat still act as magnets to the minds of Indian audiences! Catering to the 21 day lockdown in India amid corona virus spread, the public in India had taken over to social media demanding to re-telecast the epics, gradually being suggestive to relive the sentimental longings.

The Ramayan and Mahabharat series are said to be master creations even today as none of those who later attempted to recreate the two epics, including their successors, could ever charm the audience as 'they' did.

Responding to people’s demand for a re-telecast of Ramayan during the nationwide lockdown, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar on March 26 said that the public service broadcaster was working with rights holders to air the mythological series back on Doordarshan.
Further responding positive, Prakash Javadekar on Friday announced to start retelecast of 'Ramayana' from tomorrow, Saturday March 28 in DD National. "One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm", he said.

Users particularly demanded the re-telecast of film director Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan that was first aired in 1987 on Doordarshan. The series is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana written by Valmiki around 300 BCE. This epic poem was first composed in Sanskrit and documents Hindu deity Rama’s journey. People also demanded the telecast of film director B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat which was first aired in 1988 on Doordarshan. Mahabharat, based on Sage Vyasa’s epic, narrates the struggle for sovereignty between two groups of cousins, the Kauravas and Pandavas.

If there was ever a time to go back to roots and teach today's India about history and values- it’s now during 21 days lockdown. The positive outcome of the authorities with people presently confined to their homes under the lockdown, the demand at least on social media, for yet another run of these mythological series on Doordarshan has picked up wind.
