'Impact of COVID-19 is worrisome; requires our best action', Ratan Tata commits Rs 1,500 cr financial aid

Mumbai, March 28: Assisting India in the fight against COVID-19, Tata Trust's Chairman Ratan Tata on Saturday committed Rs 500 crores and additional Rs 1000 crores towards helping protect medical personnel, increase testing and improve the treatment for patients. He emphasized that fighting COVID-19 is one of the toughest challenged for the human race.
 
He took to Twitter sharing the official letter. “The COVID 19 crisis is one of the toughest challenges we will face as a race. The Tata Trusts and the Tata group companies have in the past risen to the needs of the nation. At this moment, the need of the hour is greater than any other time", the statement read.

"The current situation in India and across the world is of grave concern and needs immediate action. We will work together with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. Tata and would be fully supporting their initiatives, and work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group. The country is facing an unprecedented situation and crisis. All of us would have to do whatever it takes to alleviate and enhance the quality of lives of the communities we serve", it added further.
The fund will be utilized for providing protective equipment to medical personnel, respiratory systems for treating the increased cases, testing kits to ramp up testing in the country and setting up treatment facilities for those who have already caught the virus. The group declared to aid train health workers and the general public to empower them against coronavirus.
Earlier, Anand Mahindra of the Mahindra & Mahindra Group had offered to provide Mahindra resorts as care facilities for infected patients. The Mahindra Group is also working on making available ventilators which are crucial to the healthcare of those infected. While, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani had also announced that the company has set up isolation centers, a hospital and has donated Rs 5 crore to the Maharashtra government’s relief fund. Apart from that Reliance Foundation is also providing meals to people in various cities.
