Army rubbishes misleading reports; 'Welfare Fund not used to purchase weapons, equipment'

New Delhi, Aug 27: The Indian Army has rubbished off misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that donations to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund are being used to purchase weapons and equipment. The Indian Army said that the reports are not true and the donations are solely being used for the welfare of battle casualties.

Taking to the Twitter, Army clarified that the subject fund was opened in response to the desire of citizens to contribute to the welfare of battle casualties and they're next of kin and is being utilized solely for that purpose.
 
 
"Reports in social media on donations to Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund for purchase of weapons and equipment are not true," a tweet by the official handle of Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), Indian Army read.
 
 
"It is clarified that the subject fund was opened in response to desire of spirited citizens to contribute to the welfare of battle casualties/ their next of kin and is being utilised solely for that purpose," it said in a another tweet.
  
Earlier, on several social platforms, reports were circulating saying that the welfare fund is being misused. It had stated that the donations are to procure miltary items.
