Delhi, October 12: Averting a major terror attack in the National capital amid the Hindu festival season, the Delhi Police special cell nabbed a Pakistan-based terrorist in the Laxmi Nagar area Delhi and recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition from him.
Delhi police have booked him under related provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Act, Arms Act. The terror suspect is being interrogated and a search has also been conducted at his present address.
"A terrorist, Pak national, caught by #DelhiPolice #SpecialCell @CellDelhi from Laxmi Nagar area of Delhi, staying on fake identity on forged documents, as we beefed up anti-terror alert and action across the city in the current festive season. Major terror plan foiled. Further probe on," the Delhi Police said in a tweet.
The terrorist has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of Narowal in Pakistan's Punjab province. According to the official, the suspected Pakistan national had obtained fake Indian identity cards through forged documents. He has been living in India for the last 10-15 years by the name of Ali Ahmed Noori.
While briefing the press conference, Delhi police said, "We received a tip that a terrorist was hiding in Laxmi Nagar and could be planning something big in the coming days. Based on the inputs, raids were conducted and Ali was apprehended from his house around 10 pm on Monday.
One AK 47 rifle, two magazines with 60 rounds, one hand grenade, and two pistols with 50 rounds of cartridges were recovered from his possession. He was Constantly in contact with ISI and was allegedly planning to carry out terror attacks in the national capital.Police added, "At the time of his arrest, the police recovered an AK 47 rifle along with several other arms and ammunition."
Last month, the Delhi Police Special Cell had busted a Pakistan-organised terror module and arrested six terror suspects, including two Pakistan-ISI-trained terrorists.
