New Delhi, November 11: Becoming the 101st member, the United States joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA), an inter-governmental organisation formed by India and France to accelerate the global adoption of solar power.
John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, made the announcement on behalf of the US at the COP26 climate summit. Kerry described the US membership as a major step towards the rapid deployment of solar power, as he formally signed the framework agreement at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.
While signing the framework agreement, Kerry said in the statement, "It has long been coming and we are happy to join the International Solar Alliance, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the lead in making. We worked out the details, and this is a process we are pleased to be a part of. This will be an important contribution to the more rapid deployment of solar globally."

Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav welcomed the US as the 101st member of ISA and said that the USA's entry would further strengthen the grouping. "This move will strengthen the ISA and propel future action on providing a clean source of energy to the world," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the US joining the International Solar Alliance, and sad this would further strengthen the alliance in its shared quest of harnessing solar energy for a sustainable planet.
PM Modi and former French President Francois Hollande announced the launch of the ISA on November 30, 2015. The announcement was made at the 21st session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP-21) in Paris, France.
