Domestic flight operations commence at the newly inaugurated Kushinagar airport

The operationalization of the Kushinagar airport will connect this region directly with national and global visitors and pilgrims.

Kushinagar, Nov 27: The domestic flight operations at the newly inaugurated Kushinagar airport commenced on November 26 with the first flight operating between Delhi and Kushinagar. The first domestic flight from Delhi landed at the newly inaugurated Kushinagar International Airport on Friday at 1.35 pm.

The passengers were welcomed by MP Vijay Dubey, MLA Rajnikant Mani Tripathi, Airport director AK Dwivedi along with other officials, with ‘Chandan Tilak’ and flowers. A total of 74 passengers arrived from Delhi on the flight. The commencement of the flight operations on this route is in line with the commitment and perseverance of MoCA and AAI to enable the country with better air connectivity under the UDAN scheme. To date, 395 routes and 63 airports including 6 heliports and 2 Water Aerodromes have been operationalized under the UDAN scheme.
 
 
Congratulating the people on the occassion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “The operation of air travel from Kushinagar International Airport has started from today. This is not just a flight of an airplane, it is a flight for the overall development of the state. The government of @BJP4UP has done what it said. Hearty congratulations to all!”

Notably, Kushinagar is an international Buddhist pilgrimage centre. Here Lord Gautam Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana. This region is also the centre point of the Buddhist circuit, which consists of pilgrimage sites at Lumbini, Sarnathand Gaya. The operationalization of the Kushinagar airport will connect this region directly with national and global visitors and pilgrims.
 
The Airports Authority of India has developed the Kushinagar Airport with new terminal building spread across 3600sqm at an estimated cost of Rs 260 crore in association with Govt. of Uttar Pradesh. The new terminal is equipped to handle 300 passengers during peak hours. Besides, SpiceJet was awarded the Kushinagar - Delhi route under the RCS-UDAN 4.0. The flight operations on this route will act as a multiplier effect on the hospitality, tourism, and local economy.

The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20. Flights for two more cities, Kolkata and Mumbai, will start operating from from December 17 and December 18 respectively.
