Teetwal, Dember 23: Fearing the Indian Army's stern warning, Pakistani rangers have stopped illegal construction at the Line of Control (LoC) in the Teetwal sector of Kupwara in north Kashmir.
Teetwal is a small border village near the LoC in the Kupwara district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Teetwal is connected to the rest of India via Tangdhar.
On 21 December, the local police officer of the area confirmed the incident of illegal construction at about 500 metres on the Pakistan side. After that, they informed the Indian army about it. "They had started constructing some structures on the other side of the border which fell within a 500-meter range from this side," said the officer.
It should be noted that, as per the Karachi Agreement signed by India and Pakistan in 1949, no construction is permitted within 500 yards of zero line on LOC and this "no construction zone" is considered a "no man's land" which is secured by both countries with landmines within their respective areas.
Following the information, the Indian Army has objected to the unusual activity of construction by Pakistan Rangers close to the border. Issuing the stern warning it asked the Pakistan Rangers to stop the unwarranted construction using loudspeakers.
In the video, the Indian side can be heard sending a strong warning to the Pakistan Army, asking it to stop the illegal construction or face the consequences. "Stop this construction. We have been raising this matter, by request since yesterday. You are doing construction work on the part within 500 meters. We are requesting you, if you do not stop the work now, we will take another route to stop this construction," heard the warning from the Indian side.
