Delhi court sends actor-activist Deep Sidhu to 7-day police custody

New Delhi, February 10: In a major development, Delhi Court's remanded 7-day police custody to Punjabi actor-singer Deep Sidhu in connection with the Red Fort violence during the farmer's tractor parade. Following his arrest by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police, Sidhu was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Prigya Gupta at the Tis Hazari Courts.

During the proceedings, Police sought his custody for 10 alleging that he was one of the main instigators of the violent incidents at the Red Fort. However, the court sent him to 7-day police custody.
 
 
 
 
While the hearing, Deep Sidhu's counsel had opposed Delhi Police's plea seeking his police custody saying that he was merely "at the wrong place at the wrong time."
 
It should be noted that Sidhu has been arrested for several offenses under the Indian Penal Code including rioting (147 and 148), unlawful assembly (149), attempt to murder (120-B), criminal conspiracy (120-B), assaulting or obstructing public servant (152), dacoity (395), culpable homicide (308) and disobedience to order promulgated by a public servant (188).
 
Deep Sidhu was arrested from Karnal Bypass at 10.40 pm on Monday. The arrest was made by a team of Delhi Police's Special Cell, said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell). His arrest came days after the Delhi Police announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of Deep Sidhu, Jugraj Singh, Gurjot Singh, and Gurjant Singh.
