Home Ministry lists 42 organizations involved in terrorist activities

New Delhi, Mar 10: The Central govt has declared 42 organizations as terrorist organizations and listed their names in the First Schedule of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The govt has maintained that terrorism in India has largely been sponsored from across the border. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has not made the names of the organizations public yet.

The Home Ministry has submitted an organized report of the numbers of terrorists and persons killed during terrorist attacks in the hinterland of the country and in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, during the last three years as well as the current year. According to the provided data, during all the three years from 2018-21, 3 persons have been killed in the hinterland of the country with no terrorist being killed at all. Whereas, in the union territory of Jammu Kashmir, the number of terrorists being killed in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 is 257, 157, 221 and 3 respectively and the number of persons killed in the union territory are 39, 39, 37 and 1 respectively.
 
 
According to the Home ministry's statement, the Central govt has taken various steps in this regard including strengthening of legal framework, streamlining of intelligence mechanism, setting up of National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation and prosecution of terror related cases, having various hubs of National Security Guards (NSG), stepping up border and coastal security, modernization of police forces and capacity building of state police forces, and several similar efforts. Due to concerted and coordinated efforts of all the stakeholders, terrorism related violence has been contained to a large extent in the country.
