'Jai Sri Ram represents culture of India': Ramayana fame Arun Govil joins BJP

New Delhi, January 19: Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan fame actor Arun Govil, best known for his role as Prabhu Shri Ram TV Series, joined Bhartiya Janata Patry BJP in Delhi. He joined the BJP in the presence of its general secretary Arun Singh and Union Minister Debasree Chaudhuri.

While addressing the press conference, he came down heavily on TMC Mamata Banerjee saying that, her 'irritation' to the chant of Jai Shri Ram trigger him to join the BJP. He said, "West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's irritation to Jai Shri Ram was a trigger point for me to join the BJP. And there is nothing wrong in saying Jai Shri Ram."
  
 
 
“Some people are not ready to understand. They have some sort of allergy. They have to understand that Lord Ram is our ideal. Why would you want to resist? This will be fatal for nation-building. This country belongs to Lord Ram,” Govil said. He further added, "It is not a slogan, not even a political slogan. It is a way of life for us, it represents our culture and ethos."  The actor will not contest the elections, the BJP said but will campaign for the party.

Arun Govil became a household name after he played the role of Lord Ram in the Ramayan. The legendry TV series based on Valmiki Ramayan and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas. The actor came back in the limelight during nationwide lockdown when the epic TV show and broke all previous records. It became the most viewed show in the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) segment ever since it started airing on DD National on 28 March last year. He has acted in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Braj Bhasha, Odia, and Telugu films.

It should be worth to be noted that his co-actor Deepika Chikhalia, who played the role of Goddess Sita, and Arvind Tiwari who played the role of Ravan had also joined BJP. Apart from her Mahabharat fame Nitish Bharadwaj, Roopa Ganguly, Gajendra Chauhan had also joined the political party.
 
 
Assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will be held from April 27 and the results will be declared on May 2.
