President Kovind visits Jagannath Temple, donates Rs. 1 lakh for development of shrine

New Delhi, March 22: During his three-day visit to Odisha, President Ram Nath Kovind Monday visited the Lord Jagannath temple in Purin and donated Rs. 1 lakh for the development of the shrine.

Kovind and his wife arrived at the temple around 9.10 am. Puri's Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb and the SJTA chief administrator Krishan Kumar welcomed them at the Lion's Gate of the temple. After they offered prayers to deities at the Lord Jagannath temple. The President and The First Lady also sought blessings from Mahaprabhu Jagannath.

Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared the news via social media. He tweeted, "Accompanied Hon’ble President Shri Ram Nath Kovind and the First Lady Smt. Savita Kovind to #SriMandir to seek blessings from Mahaprabhu Jagannath. Hon. @rashtrapatibhvn & the First Lady also offered a #Nidhi of ₹1 Lakh for the development of Shri Jagannath Dham."
 
Moreover, Kovind also discussed with officials concerned regarding the beautification works underway in the temple surroundings. Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Krishan Kumar and Puri Collector Samarth Verma were also present. Besides, President Kovind and his wife Savita also visited the Sun Temple in Konark, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
 
On 15 January president donated Rs 5,01,000 as a contribution towards the construction of the Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya.
