His Holiness the Dalai Lama gets vaccinated in Dharamshala

Shimla, Mar 6: Buddhist Spiritual leader the Dalai Lama received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Dharamshala, on Mar 6. He received the dose at Dharamshala's Zonal Hospital early morning. Regular post vaccination procedure was followed and he was kept under observation for about half an hour. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is 86-year-old was, had self-quarantined himself since Jan 2020, and it was only during the vaccination that he had come out of his residence, after over a year.

According to Palden, the Health Secretary of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the CTA had requested the state and central government to make arrangements for the spiritual leader's vaccination nearly two months ago. The records of the Union Health Ministry suggest that there are currently 589 active COVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh and as many as 57,428 recoveries and 997 deaths have been reported in the state so far.
 
 
The Dalai Lama's office also thanked the Govt of India and the Himachal Pradesh dispensation for facilitating the first dose of vaccine for the spiritual leader. After the vaccination, the Dalai Lama also asked people to come forward in large numbers and get themselves vaccinated for the greater benefit.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi being vaccinated at the All India Institue of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, on Mar 1, the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive to inoculate people above 60 years and those over 45 with comorbidities against the corona virus. For the second phase of the vaccination, several prominent political leaders in the country, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, have already taken the first jab of the vaccine against corona virus.
