Mumbai, April 15: Amidst the break the chain and lockdown like situation in the state of Maharashtra, the Dabbawalas in Mumbai seem to have been suffering a lot. The Chief Minister on Tuesday under the break the chain model announced temperory closure of businesses and offices except for those exempted and essential services. In spite of locals being operative, these dabbawalas have no business left.

In a tweet to the news agency, Vishnu Kaldoke, one of the dabbawalas said, "Dabbawalas are facing tough time due to fresh covid restrictions in the state. Out of 5,000 dabbawalas, only 400-500 were working. With new lockdown restrictions, only 200-250 are now left. We're again urging the govt for financial help".

The state of Maharashtra has announced financial aid to the poor, rickshaw drivers, small businesses but probably haven't thought about the 'Mumbai ka Dabbawalas'. It has also anounced free food, free financial aid to the poor 'the Shivbhojan thali' but no talk about these dabbawalas?

The dabbawalas of Mumbai, the world-famous, much-lauded lunchbox delivery men take to the city’s trains to transport hot meals from home to office daily. They’ve been studied by Harvard professors and visited by royals from all over the world: Two of them even attended the wedding of the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005. And they’ve been fascinating travelers for decades too.
