Ahead of phase 3, SII announces Covishield price for States and Private Hospitals

New Delhi, April 21: Day after the government of India liberalised the inoculation process and allowed vaccines for adults, Adar poonawala led Serum Institute of India (SII) unveiled the prices for its Covidhield vaccine doses.

 According to the statement, SII is going to charge state governments at Rs 400 ($5.30) and private hospitals Rs 600 ($7.95) for one dose of its Covishield COVID-19 vaccine. In the statement, SII has also underlined that the Covishield vaccine is affordable than other global vaccines which cost approximately cost Rs 1500, Rs 750 respectively.
 
In its notification, Serum Institue said the company will serve 50% of the total production to the Government of India's vaccination program, and the remaining 50% of the capacity will be for the State governments and private hospitals.
 
 
 
"For the next two months, we will address the limited capacity by scaling up the vaccine production. Going ahead, 50 percent of our capacities will be served to the Government of India’s vaccination program, and the remaining 50% of the capacity will be for the State governments and private hospitals,” the statement released by the Serum Institute of India said.

SII also urged independent and private stakeholders to access the vaccines via the state-facilitated machinery for the next six months. SII has also assured that the vaccine will be made available in the open market in around four to five months.

SII's decision has come after a meeting of PM Modi and pharmaceutical manufacturers. In the meeting, PM Modi urges the industry to ensure a seamless supply of medicines. In the meeting, the Centre has decided that all stakeholders will be given the flexibility to customize to local needs.
 
 
 
 
The government on Monday liberalised its vaccination strategy allowing all adults over the age of 18 to get the vaccination from May 1.
