Mandaviya said production capacity is now ramped up from 40 lakhs vials per month to around 90 lakhs vials per month. He said, very soon, three lakh vials per day will be produced.

It should be noted that the government has keenly trying to build the bridge the gap of Remdsivir. The government had waived customs duty on Remdesivir, its raw materials, and other components used to make the anti-viral drug. This decision will help augment domestic availability and reduce the cost of the injection.

It should be noted, Remdesivir has been approved as an investigational drug for strict use under hospital conditions. However, as per the government, Remdesivir should be considered for only those patients with moderate to severe diseases (requiring supplemental oxygen) within 10 days of onset of symptoms, under emergency use authorization (EUA).

Besides, the government has also taken steps to boost the covid treatment. Yesterday, the Medical body Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) gave an emergency nod to Zudus Cadila's anti-viral drug 'Virafin' for treatment of moderate COVID-19 infection.

India recorded a record-high 3,32,730 new coronavirus cases over 24 hours. The number of active cases now stands at 24,28,616.
