Himanta Biswa Sarma takes oath as Assam Chief Minister

Guwahati, May 10: Ending the suspense BJP’s senior leader and convener of NEDA Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today took oath as 15th Chief Minister of Assam along with his team of ministers. Governor Jagadish Mukhi administered oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister and his team of ministers at an impressive function held at Srimanta Sankardeve Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Jagat sad Nadda and other senior leaders congratulated Dr. Himanta and his team and exuded confidence that the new team will usher in an era of development and peace in Assam.

In a twitter message the Prime Minister said “Congratulations to @himantabiswa ji and other ministers who took oath today. I am confident this team will add momentum to the development journey of Assam and fulfill aspirations of the people”.


The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in implementing and executing various development schemes in Assam and assuring wellbeing of the people of the state.

In a twitter message the Prime Minister said, “My valued colleague @sarbanandsonwal Ji was at the helm of a pro-people and pro-development administration over the last five years. His contribution towards Assam’s progress and strengthening the party in the state is immense.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the new Chief Minister saying that under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi and under the leadership of new chief minister the state of Assam will set a new benchmark of peace, progress and prosperity”.


BJP National President Jagat Prasad Nadda who was present at the swearing in ceremony tweeted congratulating Himanta Biswa Sarma and his team of ministers. He hoped that the NDA government in Assam will fulfill the aspirations of the people”.


The Chief Ministers of other northeastern states congratulated the new Chief Minister of Assam and his team of ministers on this occasion. Chief Ministers of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, Manipur CM N Biren Singh and Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb shared their congratulation messages on twitter.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was present at the swearing in ceremony. He said he was honored to be part of the swearing in ceremony. Sangma also said that Himanta has led from the forefront, gathering the admiration of the millions in Assam and the North East.


Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio who was present at the ceremony, also posted, “Was honored to join newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Assam Shri @himantabiswa for lunch, along with my Chief Minister colleagues @SangmaConrad, @NBirenSingh, Biplab Kumar Deb @BjpBiplab and the new Assam Government Cabinet.”


Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb, who was also present at the ceremony, also tweeted, “On behalf of the 37 lakh people of Tripura. I express warm greetings to Shri @himantabiswa ji on being sworn-in as the Chief Minister of #Assam. Under the able leadership of #Himanta Da, @BJP4Assam and its allies shall persevere to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Assam.”

Manipur CM N. Biren Singh who was also present at the ceremony, posted on Twitter, “Congratulations to Shri. @himantabiswa Dada on taking oath as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam. With your wisdom & commitment to fulfil the aspirations of the people, I believe Assam is embarking on a new journey of peace & development under your leadership as Chief Minister.”


Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, posted, “Heartiest congratulations to Dr @himantabiswa Ji on having taken oath as the new Chief Minister of #Assam. My best wishes Dada on your new responsibilities. I pray to God to bestow you with strength and wisdom to lead the State to new heights of glory and development.”
