First dose of Sputnik V administered in Hyderabad, to cost Rs 995 per dose

New Delhi, May 15: As India's Dr. Reddy’s laboratory received the first Sputnik V from Russia, the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm has announced the price of the Russian covid vaccine. The Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine will be available in the market at a retail price of Rs 948. the third vaccine to be approved for use in India. With that announcement, Sputnik V is the second most expensive COVID1-19 vaccine in the country.

“As part of a limited pilot, the soft launch of the vaccine has commenced, and the first dose of the vaccine was administered in Hyderabad today on May 14, 2021. The imported doses of the vaccine are presently priced at an MRP of Rs 948 + 5% GST per dose, with the possibility of a lower price point when local supply begins,” the company said in its regulatory filing.
 
Moreover, Deepak Sapra, Global Head of Custom Pharma Servicethe received the first dose of the Sputnik V in Hyderabad on Friday. He became the first person to receive the Sputnik V shot.
 
The Russian vaccine is the third vaccine to be approved for use in India. The two-dose vaccine is developed jointly by Gamleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow. Sputnik V is created using different Human Adenoviruses. The efficacy of the vaccine is 91%..
 
The Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm signed an agreement with the Russia Direct Investment Fund to receive 250 million doses. This is sufficient to inoculate 125 million people in the country. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories is also going to produce the vaccine in India.
 
India is currently using COVISHIELD and COVAXIN vaccines. The price of COVISHIELD vaccines was Rs 400 per dose. It recently reduced it to Rs 300 per dose. It is manufactured locally by the Serum Institute of India. While COVAXIN costs Rs 600 per dose for the state governments and Rs 1,200 for private hospitals.
