Cyclone Yaas to intensify into 'very severe cyclonic storm', IMD issues warning

New Delhi, May 22: Issuing the warning against Cyclone Yaas India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said Cyclone is likely to intensify into a 'very severe cyclonic storm' and will cross the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal on May 26.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area formed over east-central Bay of Bengal l and the adjoining north Andaman Sea today. IMD in its daily bulletin said The low-pressure area is very likely to concentrate into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow, the May 23 morning. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards, intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by May 24 and further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours."
 
 
 
 
IMD said it is expected to move north-northwestwards and intensify further and reach the north Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha and Bangladesh coasts by the morning of May 26. In view of the cyclonic storm Yaas, Odisha has put 14 of the state’s 30 districts on high alert. It also has urged the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy to be prepared for any kind of emerging situation.
 
 
Earlier this week, Cyclone Tauktae had hit Gujarat and Maharashtra and left a trail of destruction all over the coastal regions in the two states.
