Filmmaker Aisha Sultana moves HC for anticipatory bail in sedition case

Kochi, June 14: After Lakshadweep based Filmmaker Aisha Sultana was booked under charges of sedition, she has now moved to the Kerala High Court on Monday seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered against her.
 
Last week, Lakshadweep Police in Kavaratti had registered an FIR against Sultana under Sections 121 A (sedition) and 153 (B) (assertions against national integration) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on a complaint filed by a BJP leader Lakshadweep unit president C Abdul Khader Haji.

The case was registered by Kavaratti Police. The police have asked her to appear before the police on June 20.

In the complaint, the BJP leader that alleged that Sultana had spread false information about the spread of COVID-19 in the islands and that her remarks on a TV show regarding the new Lakshadweep Administrator, Praful Patel, was an "anti-national" act.

During the interview, she said that the PM Narendra Modi-led government has used COVID-19 as a "bioweapon."She made these comments while talking about how administrator Praful Khoda Patel handled the COVID-19 situation on a Malayalam TV debate this week.

"Lakshadweep had zero cases of COVID-19. Now it's reporting a daily spike of 100 cases. What the Centre has deployed is a bioweapon. I can say this clearly that the central government has deployed bioweapon," Sultana had said.
