Debashish Acharya who slapped TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in 2015 dies mysteriously; family claims 'murder'

Kolkata, June 19: Political vendettas continue in West Bengal under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee as Debashish Acharya who had slapped Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in 2015, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in West Bengal.

According to reports, Debashish found injured near Tamluk Toll Plaza in West Usatpur where he was spotted lying injured. He was brought by some unknown people to the Tamluk district hospital in Midnapore in a critically injured condition on Thursday. However, the doctor declared him dead.
 
 
The police are investigating the cause of his death and it is not certain whether he was victim of a road accident. After hearing about his sudden death, Debashish's family rused to the hospital. Debasish’s mother alleged that her son had been murdered by Trinamool Congress goons.

“Debashish and I used to give free yoga lessons to people. A couple of months back few people of a particular community had threatened Debasish to stop his yoga lessons. After that only I carried on with the duty and again a few weeks back those same people who are not the residents of this area came and threatened my son and then yesterday he was killed,” claimed the weeping mother.
 
Soon after the incident came to light, several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised questions about his mysterious death. Debashish became the centre of controversy after he slapped West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee during a public meeting in 2015.

Debashish was arrested by the Police. Later, Abhishek forgave him and Debashish was released. In February 2020, Debasish had joined hands with BJP, ahead of the Assembly Election.
