Earlier, Twitter has removed the blue verified badge from the Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu's personal Twitter account. Soon after the backlash, Jack Dorsey-owned company restored the blue tick on Venkaiah Naidu’s account.

In its defense, Twitter said that they removed the blue verified badge from the Vice President of India’s personal Twitter handle over inactivity. Naidu's account was not active for the last 6 months. Because of this, his handle was unverified. A policy update by Twiter suggests that inactivity for 6 months leads to un-verification.

According to Twitter, it holds the sole power to remove the blue verified badge and verified status of a Twitter account at any time and without notice if an account changes its username (@handle), becomes inactive or incomplete, or if the owner of the account is no longer in the position for which they were initially verified and do not otherwise meet criteria for verification since leaving such position.

Currently, Twitter has locked horns over the Centre's new IT rules, seeking amendments in the rules.

This comes a day after Twitter was indefinitely suspended in Nigeria after it removed a controversial tweet of Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Nigeria became the first country to suspend the US-based micro-blogging website in the African continent. Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed called Twitter’s mission in Nigeria “suspicious” and added that the US technology company has an agenda.
