In notice, NCSC has asked the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh to submit a report on the action taken against the large-scale conversion activities in the state in the next 15 days. Moreover, the NCSC has also assured to look into the matter and take necessary action against the rampant conversion activities by the church in Andhra Pradesh.

Seven months earlier, on January 20, Legal Rights Protection Forum the Non-profit legal activism organisation 'SC-ST Rights Forum' that works in the area of Dalit rights filed a complaint to the NCSC over large-scale Christian conversions activities by the Christian missionaries and Church. The group had sought a Fact-Finding Committee for remedial action.

In its complaint, the forum mentioned that the situation is such that the terms ‘SC’ and ‘Christians’ have become synonymous in the state leading to further law and order issues along with widespread social strife.

Citing the replies to an RTI query about the selection of beneficiaries for the Andhra government’s scheme ‘Chandranna Christmas Kanuka’, the complaint said that the government officials in Andhra had replied that they treat the entire SC population as Christians while the scheme is meant only for Christians.

Moreover, the forum further added that individuals practicing Christianity continue to receive their Hindu caste certificates in order to obtain the advantage of the benefits of reservations. It alleged that the Christian evangelists are engaged in aggressive proselytization and sowing the seeds of secessionism by making converts swear allegiance to extra-constitutional and extra-territorial religious heads.
