'Afghanistan's security situation a concern': India after urging its nationals to leave war-torn country

New Delhi, August 13: Expressing concern over the ongoing unrest in Afghanistan, India said that it continues to hope for a comprehensive ceasefire to end violence in that country.
While speaking to the media, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said Afghanistan's security situation is a rapidly evolving situation and that the primary concern is peace and stability in that country.
It also asserted that it is closely monitoring developments and supporting all peace initiatives of Afghanistan.
When questioned whether India is also holding discussions with the Taliban, Bagchi said, "We are in touch with all stakeholders, various stakeholders. I would not like to say anything further."
The Embassy of India in the country has also issued a fresh security advisory for its citizens and journalists who are in the war-torn nation on duty. The Indian Embassy advised the Indians staying, visiting, and working in Afghanistan to strictly follow its previous three advisories.
Yesterday, the Taliban claimed control over two of Afghanistan's biggest cities Kandahar and Herat. The seizure of Kandahar and Herat marks the biggest prizes yet for the Taliban, who have taken 12 of Afghanistan’s 34 provincial capitals as part of a week-long blitz.
