New Delhi, August 14: As Facebook did not flag Rahul Gandhi's Instagram post which reveals the identity of the victim's family, now the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has summoned the Facebook officials.
It has Facebook’s ‘Trust and Safety Dept’ head Satya Yadav, to appear before it at 5 PM August 17 to explain what action it has taken against RaGa's Instagram profile.
It should be worth to be noted that yesterday, the child rights body asked Facebook to take action against RaGa for posting the video of the girl's family which violated the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It also demanded the removal of the video from the platform.
In a letter to Facebook on Friday, the Commission said it has come across a video posted on the Instagram profile of Gandhi wherein the identity of the victim minor girl’s family has been disclosed. “In this video, the faces of the father and the mother of the deceased girl can be seen, which violates the prescribed provisions of law”, it added.
Before this, NCPCR wrote to Twitter and asked it to take action against Gandhi for posting the family's photo on the social media platform. After that, Twitter temporarily locked Rahul Gandhi's account, saying it reviewed the Congress leader's tweet against its rules and policies. NCPCR has also moved the Delhi High Court over the issue.
We must remind you that as per the new IT law the social media giant, has to remove or disable contents that are against the safety and dignity of individuals within 24 hours of receiving the complaints.
