EAM Jaishankar meets UN Secretary discusses Afghan situation

New York, August 18: As part of his visit to New York, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and discussed the ongoing turmoil situation in Afghanistan.

Following his meeting with Guterres in the UN headquarters on Tuesday, the minister tweeted, “Good to meet UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres. Our discussions focused on Afghanistan, following upon the Security Council meeting yesterday.”
 
 
Apart from that, he also met Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Eva-Maria Liimets and exchanged views on the development in Afghanistan. As a UNSC member, he also discussed maritime and cybersecurity and other global issues.
 
 
 
Limits described her meeting with Jaishankar as “important” and said in a tweet that they talked about the "uncertain" situation in Afghanistan and India's first UNSC Presidency. 
 
 
Jaishankar is also going to hold two high-level signature events this week under India's current Security Council Presidency. He is expected to discuss the situation in Afghanistan during his engagements at the United Nations.
 
 
Earlier a day, he met US secretary of state Antony Blinken and discussed the “latest developments” in Afghanistan. He also “underlined the urgency of restoring airport operations in Kabul.
