PM Modi speaks with Italian PM, discuss Afghan situation

New Delhi, August 28: Amid the ongoing turmoil in Kabul, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi and discussed the recent happenings in war-torn Afghanistan. They also talked about the implications of Kabul's development for the region and the world.

The two leaders strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attack at Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport and stressed the need to ensure the secure repatriation of the stranded people. The leaders also discussed long term security concerns arising out of the developments in Afghanistan.
 
 
Along with the Afghanistan crisis, two leaders talked about other important issues on the G20 agenda. Both the leaders stressed the need for international cooperation, including at the level of the G-20, in addressing the humanitarian crisis. The two leaders also shared views on other important issues on the G-20 agenda, such as Climate Change and forthcoming multilateral engagements too, such as COP-26.
 
Prime Minister Modi appreciated Italy’s dynamic leadership in productively steering discussions within the G-20. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch on bilateral and global issues, especially on the situation in Afghanistan.
