Coal India Ltd (CIL) Strengthens Health Infrastructure in Assam

New Delhi, September 10: Coal India Ltd or the CIL (under the Ministry of Coal) signed an MoU with Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Assam to strengthen the health infrastructure at Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Silchar, the only Medical College / Hospital in Barak Valley Region, Assam.

CIL will contribute Rs. 5 crores towards setting up an ICU facility and medical gas pipeline in the Silchar Medical College & Hospital, benefitting more than 40 lakh people here.
 
 
 
The CIL and its firms undertook many high-investment and high-impact projects to improve medical facilities across India. A few notable projects are the Medical College / Hospital at Talcher, Odisha costing Rs. 492 crores.
Another one is ‘Premashraya’ - a home for children and their families who are seeking cancer treatment in Kolkata for Rs. 41 crores.

There is also Support for Bone Marrow transplant of children who are suffering from Thalassemia costing Rs. 40 crores, and a Cardiac Care Centre at Jharsuguda, Odisha at Rs. 75 crores.

During FY 2020-21, CIL and the subsidiaries spent Rs. 269 crores on COVID relief projects which is 48% of total CSR Expenditure of that year. Moreover, the CIL also gave Rs. 221 crores to PM CARES fund in FY 2019-20.
