This formal announcement has come more than a week after the UP govt announced a complete ban on the sale of liquor and meat in Mathura.

Lucknow, September 10: In the major development, the Yogi Aditya Nath-led-Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a ban on the sale of meat and liquor around the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura.

Taking the social media, the UP govt announced that an area comprising of 22 wards of the Mathura municipality will henceforth be identified as a holy pilgrimage site and will have a complete ban on the sale of meat and liquor.
 
“UP CM Shri Yogi Adityanath today declared a total of 22 municipal wards falling in 10 sqm of the area, keeping Shri Krishna’s birthplace in the center of Mathura-Vrindavan, as a pilgrimage site,” said the CMO.
 
 
 
This formal announcement has come more than a week after the UP govt announced a complete ban on the sale of liquor and meat in Mathura. The chief minister made this announcement while speaking at the Krishnotsava 2021 programme. He suggested that those engaged in the liquor and meat trade may take up selling milk in order to revive the glory of Mathura, which was known for producing huge quantities of animal milk.
 
"Every effort will be made to develop Brij Bhumi and there will be no dearth of funds for this. We are looking at a blend of modern technology and the cultural and spiritual heritage for the development of the region," he said.
 
In 2017, CM Yogi’s government had declared a ban on meat in Vrindavan and Barsana. Similar bans exist around the holy temple sites of Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh too.
