Veteran Actor Naseeruddin Shah in a viral video messge happened to condemn all those Indian Muslims who are celebrating the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. "While the Taliban regaining power in Afghanistan is a cause for concern for the whole world, celebrations by a section of Indian Muslims of the barbarians are no less concerning," said Shah in a video.

He, 71, added that each Indian Muslim should mull over whether they are interested in a reformed, modern Islam or the barbaric values of past centuries. “I am an Indian Muslim and, as Mirza Ghalib said years ago, my relationship with my God is informal. I don’t need political religion," stated the National School of Drama (NSD) and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) alumnus.

He further distinguished between what he called Hindustani Islam and what is practised elsewhere. "May God not bring a time when Islam in India changes so drastically that it is no longer recognisable," he added. In response to the video, film director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri tweeted, "I am so glad #NaseeruddinShah has spoken against the inhuman and barbaric Taliban. I hope more and more educated and creative Muslims (specially from Bollywood) speak against these enemies of humanity. Bravo, Naseer Bhai"

When the Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 until their ouster by US-led forces in 2001, they imposed a radical form of Sharia law. During their previous rule, women were largely kept at home, television and music were shut down, and executions were performed in public.

According to Taliban leaders, this time they will respect human rights and won't allow terrorists to operate in the country. Afghanistan's Taliban had last month announced that they would respect women's rights, forgive those that fought them, and make sure Afghanistan remains a terrorist-free zone.
