New Delhi, Sept 25: In what came as a shocker, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has said that India should talk to the Taliban as it has invested heavily in Afghanistan and there is no harm in keeping relations with them.

"Taliban is in power in Afghanistan now. India spent billions on different projects during the last regime in Afghanistan. We should talk to the current Afghan regime. When we've invested so much in the country so what's the harm in keeping relations with them?" Abdullah said. Now, it should be noted that this is the same Taliban that is busy in violating human rights especially that of women and children.

Earlier this month, the NC supremo had said he hopes the Taliban delivers good governance and respect human rights in Afghanistan. "I hope they (Taliban) will deliver good governance and follow Islamic principles in that country (Afghanistan) and respect human rights. They should try to develop friendly relations with every country," he said while responding to the question on Afghanistan.

Besides Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti has also given several statements on the Taliban. In the first week of September, she had said that the Taliban must set an example for the world to follow that form of Sharia law where women’s rights are respected and shun their interpretation of the Sharia law. Last week, she had accused the BJP of politics over the issues of Taliban, Afghanistan and Pakistan to garner votes.

Abdullah also blamed the US for the crisis in Afghanistan. While conceding that terrorism is a global menace, he indicated that the US is responsible for its spread because of its interventionist policy.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi's US visit, the National Conference leader said, "I am sure that PM Modi must be taking to all leaders, including the US president Joe Biden. There is no doubt that terrorism is eating the whole world. But who started terrorism? Who attached Iraq?... Who bombed Libya despite the UN's warning?"

He also questioned further, "Which is the terrorist nation that destabilised the other nations. ? Please tell me who is a terrorist country- the country that destabilised other countries. They were in Afghanistan for 20 years. Why did they run away? Why couldn't they win the hearts of the Afghans in 20 years?"
