Bengaluru, Jan 10: At a time when cases of the Omicron are witnessing a massive surge in the country, Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar has refused to undergo a COVID-19 test even after he was seen coughing during the 165-km long Padayatra on Sunday.
While arguing with the district health officer who had come to collect his sample, the senior Congress leader said, "I am fit and fine. You can't compel me (to give my sample). I know the law of this land. Tell your home minister I am perfect. ".
The leader further alleged that health officials were acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who had earlier warned of action for violating Covid norms by conducting the march. "Rey mister, I am fit and fine," he told the official.
This comes after a video of DK Shivakumar coughing during his interaction with Congress workers went viral on social media. Sharing the same video, Karnataka BJP had slammed the Congress for its Mekedatu padayatra."Watch Congress president DK Shivakumar cough in public during his phoney protest against the Mekedatu dam. He appears to be suffering from Covid-19 symptoms, but he is still interacting with Congress employees without a mask. Is he hell-bent on increasing the number of Corona cases? "Karnataka BJP’s official Twitter account tweeted.
Following the arrogant behavior, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai came down heavily on Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar for flouting COVID-19 norms, refusing to get tested. He also informed that the government has decided to file charges against state Congress leader DK Shivakumar and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for violating COVID protocols during their march demanding implementation of the Mekedatu project.
"We will file a case against padayatra. No just them anyone who violates law, case will be filed. Law will take its course after case is registered. No matter who it is and how big the leader is," Chief Minister Bommai said.
