Telegram channel targeting Hindu women surfaces after 'Bulli Bai app'; IT Minister assures of action

Taking cognisance of the sensitive matter, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw assured action against it and said that the channel has been taken down.

New Delhi, Jan 05: Days after the 'Bulli Bai' app controversy, several channels on social media platforms like Facebook and Telegram allegedly targeting Hindu women have surfaced on the ground. According to the information, these social media pages were sharing images of Hindu women for potential sexual harassment.

This comes after, social media users and YouTuber Anshul Saxena thrown light on this matter. Taking twitter he tagged Mumbai Police and informed about the Telegram channel, where the photos of Hindu women were being shared. According to Saxena, the Telegram Channel was created in June 2021.
 
 
 
Taking cognisance of the sensitive matter, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw assured action against it and said that the channel has been taken down. In reply to a complaint on Twitter regarding the Telegram Channel, Vaishnaw said, "Channel blocked. Government of India coordinating with police authorities of states for action."
 
 
Moreover, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said that he has directed the concerned authorities to inform Meta and to get them taken down. "Have directed Government of India MeitY team to inform Meta and have it taken down," Chandrasekhar said in a tweet.
 
The abusive pages come amid the ongoing Bulli Bai app case, in connection with which three people have been arrested so far, including two from Uttarakhand and one from Bengaluru.
 
Previously, the Delhi Police Special Cell had in July 2021 registered an FIR against the creators of a mobile application 'SULLI DEAL' for allegedly uploading photos of Muslim women without their consent, using inappropriate remarks against them. The app allegedly uploads photos of women without their consent and uses the hosting platform 'GITHUB' to auction the stolen photos.
