Indian Army dog ‘Zoom’, who attacked terrorists and was shot, stable after surgery

New Delhi, Oct 12: In a positive development, the Indian Army assault dog Zoom who was critically injured during an encounter between security forces and militants in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir is currently stable, Indian Army officials said.

Providing more details, they said Zoom is in critical condition for the next 24-48 hours and is under the close observation of the medical team at Army Veterinary Hospital in Srinagar. They informed that his fractured rear leg was plastered and splinter injuries on his face were treated.
 
 
In a combat operation in Kokernag of Anantnag, Army's dog 'Zoom' attacked terrorists and sustained grave injuries after receiving two gunshot wounds. "In spite of the injuries, he continued his task which resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists. The canine is under treatment in Srinagar," the official said.
 
The dog was a part of Operation Tangpawas combat team and was injured while fighting against terrorists. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving input about the presence of terrorists in the Tangpawa area of the south Kashmir district late on Sunday night. The Army sent its assault dog, Zoom, inside the house where the militants were holed up.
 
 
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps took to Twitter to wish to Zoom a speedy recovery. They also shared a video of the Indian Army assault dog where the brave soldier can be seen fighting in spite of severe injuries, which resulted in neutralisation of two terrorists.
 
"Zoom is a highly trained, ferocious and committed canine. He has been trained to locate and bring down terrorists,” said officials. Zoom was tasked with clearing the house where terrorists were hiding. During the operation, the Army dog was hit by two gunshots and was injured. Despite the injury, Zoom kept fighting, which resulted in the killing of two militants. The canine is under treatment at Army’s vet hospital here."
Zoom has been part of many active operations in south Kashmir, officials said. "Zoom is a highly trained, ferocious, and committed canine. Has been trained to locate and bring down terrorists," the army officials added.
