Police said the accused Prince Yadav had allegedly been in a relationship with the victim Aradhana Prajapati for the past two years and he had been pressuring her to end her marriage.

On November 15, Azamgarh police recovered a partially decomposed body of a woman with her limbs chopped from a well in the Ahraula area. Police later identified the victim as Aradhana Prajapati, a native of Ishaqpur village in Azamgarh, who had been missing since November 10. “While scanning the victim’s call records, we got to know that she had been in a relationship with a youth named Prince Yadav. We interrogated him and he confessed to the crime,” said the police. “Prince admitted that he was in a relationship with the victim for two years. He was in Dubai when Aradhana got married to another youth. After getting to know about her marriage, he returned to India and started pressuring her to end it,” said a police officer. Prince told his parents about the relationship and the family reportedly advised him to kill her if she was not ready to marry him. “Prince went to his maternal uncle Rama Yadav’s house and planned the murder. On November 10, he called Aradhana and asked her to meet him. Prince and Rama’s son Sarvesh took her to a field and strangled her. Later, they chopped her body with a sharp-edged weapon and threw it in two different wells,” he added.

Police took Prince to another well to recover the head and weapon used. “While police were busy searching, Prince took out a pistol he had hidden near the well. He opened fire and tried to escape. Police also fired during which Prince sustained a bullet injury in his leg,” said the officer.
