Sanju Samson to play for Ireland? Here is what we know so far-

Sanju Samson, the ace Indian wicketkeeper batter, has consistently been ignored by management despite his outstanding performances whenever he plays for India.

 

 

In a surprising development, Cricket Ireland has now offered Sanju Samson a chance at international cricket as the Kerala-born keeper-batsman was approached by Ireland to feature for them in international cricket with a guarantee of featuring in all games. The Irish side expressed their interest as they hunt for a skipper cum batter.

 

Despite making his debut in 2015, Samson has featured in only 27 games across formats with the most of those games coming in 2022. Samson was ignored for the Asia Cup, the T20 World Cup and the tour of Bangladesh. Despite some fine performances since his return, Samson continues to be overlooked by the national team selectors.

 

If Samson took up offer, the Kerala-born batsman would have to retire from the IPL and all forms of Indian cricket. Former U19 WC captain Unmukt Chand took a similar route and is now plying his trade in the US.

 

Reports suggest that Sanju declined the offer. While he expressed gratitude to Ireland for considering him, Samson said he could play only for India and could never imagine playing cricket representing another country.
